Luke’s Place Support and Resource Centre for Women and Children in collaboration with Action ontarienne contre la violence faite aux femmes and the Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic conducted a scan of Ontario service providers.

The investigation determined that despite changes to the law and legal system, the issue of violence against women in their intimate relationships remains a significant social problem. The system put in place to respond to this issue is in continuous need of improvement.

This report explores the intersection of some of the legal issues women face (e.g. mandatory charging practices, dual charging practices, and impacts related to changes to immigration and refugee processes as the result of Bill C-11) and the family court experiences of women who have experienced violence and provides best/promising practices and recommendations for moving forward.
