Rainbow ASL Health (RAH)

This project is a collaboration between Ontario Rainbow Alliance of the Deaf (ORAD), Rainbow Health Network and Springtide Resources. It focuses on developing ASL scripts, created by members of the Deaf Queer community and allies, on the barriers experienced in accessing health care services.

The scripts are in preparation for the possibility of future funding to produce a short DVD in American Sign Language (ASL), subtitled in English, that will introduce access issues for Deaf LGBTQ individuals to health care services, using an integrated anti-oppression framework. The scripts are intended to be part of Phase I of a larger project which will identify gaps in resources about Deaf LGBTQ communities' access to health care.

Overall goals are to:

  1. promote awareness about Deaf LGBTQ communities and their diversity;
  2. promote awareness among health service providers; and
  3. create an advocacy and self-empowerment tool for Deaf communities while promoting the use of ASL.
