Queer Deaf Womyn: Violence and Harassment Education

This project of the Ontario Rainbow Alliance of the Deaf (ORAD), in collaboration with Springtide Resources, will create the first Canadian American Sign Language (ASL) and captioned DVD about healthy and unhealthy relationships and different forms of violence and harassment that Deaf Queer womyn experience.

It will include a list of relevant terminology related to abuse, such as different forms of violence and harassment, as well as terms used in the Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Transgender, Transsexual, Intersex, Queer, and two spirited (LGBTTIQ2S) communities, and their definitions in ASL.

ASL resources that speak to these issues are necessary to provide a clear language that is culturally and linguistically appropriate and meets the varying levels of literacy in Deaf womyn, including those whose first language is not English.

The DVD will be used to accompany materials developed for workshops for Deaf Queer womyn to be held in different locations across the province.
